In
1891, IBEW Local 8 was chartered to represent the electrical workers
of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Formed to create and
cultivate a better working environment for all working men and
women, we have not lost sight of that goal.
Still dedicated to the cause of a higher standard of living for all working men and women, today we represent over 2,250 men and women who perform electrical construction in 12 counties in northwest Ohio and 3 counties in southeast Michigan. We primarily represent electricians in commercial, industrial, and residential construction markets, but our ranks are growing with voice/data/video communication workers. We also have among our members a number of maintenance electricians, HVAC technicians, and electricians in manufacturing, sign shops, and alarm systems companies. We are proud of the fact that we are well known in the community as a highly skilled workforce. Our progressive, cutting edge training program is nationally recognized in the training arena, and is a model to others. Our employers can be assured that the Local 8 member hired is knowledgeable in regards to the work required and is capable of providing the highest quality of service to customers. The work performed by Local 8 electricians is respected, and it is our duty as a union to ensure that this work is justly compensated. Along with advancement through training, Local 8 also provides health and medical benefits, an excellent pension plan and the feeling of camaraderie among workers, which is so elusive in today's workplace. It is the Local 8 members that exude the solidarity and work ethic of the union, and it is their duty to uphold these ideals.
