Governor DeWine has extended the “Stay Safe Ohio“ order to May 29, 2020.
What does that mean to Local 8 members:
The order exempts construction from the “stay at home “order where construction is deemed an essential activity. We expect most construction sites to be able to stay open, please contact us if your employer says otherwise. The governor lists Ohio’s building trades men and women, including those who perform maintenance and upkeep, as essential employees. Core labor functions are exempt although activity that can be covered by phone must be, which means Local 8 will continue to represent work but will not have in person meetings .
It is imperative that all project sites adhere to the governor's guidelines on social distancing, access to hand washing /sanitizer and other posted requirements. Please contact Local 8 if you think such guidelines are not being followed. Please be aware, your employer is permitted to take your temperature at the job sites to ensure the safety of yourself and others on the job site.
I don’t understand why a new construction job wouldn’t shut down for two weeks but they still have their rights under the order.
I will update any news I get ASAP. You still have the right to stay at home with no ramifications even though your job is open, if you believe you should be quarantined, you are sick, or you are caring for a family member.
