    Sample Letter

The Enbridge Inc. Line 5 dual pipeline easement has provided fuel to homes and energy to the state of Michigan and surrounding states and Canada since 1953. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer is attempting to terminate that easement. Governor Whitmer believes the easement is unlawful and ignores science and evidence.

I am writing this letter to urge you to vote for Ohio HR13, encouraging the State of Michigan and the Director of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to keep the Enbridge Line 5 in operation.

This easement has been in operation for over 65 years supplying fuel and energy to homes and refineries using federal pipeline safety standards and employing hundreds of union workers. An end to this easement would compromise the crude supply to refineries and result in increased fuel prices and would be detrimental to the economy of many states in the Midwest including Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and more.

The Northwest Ohio Building & Construction Trades Council has publicly stated the Toledo Refinery alone is responsible for providing more than one million work hours each year for union members. Over 550 full time workers would be impacted at the Toledo Refinery and over 600 workers at BP Husky Toledo Refinery. Both refineries would probably close permanently leaving more than 1210 hard-working Ohioans out of work. This would also affect the hundreds of contractors working at the refineries, more during shutdowns.

The closing of these refineries, and possibly many others, will leave us relying on foreign sources of fuel. The US has lost enough jobs to foreign countries and our economy has been negatively impacted enough. It has to stop!

Please vote for HR13 and keep our union brothers and sisters working; keep our economy going; keep fueling our communities.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.
